Although Winton
successfully coordinated the evacuation of many hundreds of
children, many more thousands of Czechoslovak children would not
be so lucky. Irving Roth was ten years old when the Second World
War broke out, he survived the liquidation of the Jewish
community in the town of Humenne, Eastern Slovakia and was transported
to Auschwitz and Buchenwald Concentration camps. In March 2009,
the British International School of Bratislava was honoured to
welcome Mr Roth to its Secondary School assembly.
